Question
Problem a trihybrid cross involving three traits, A, B, and C, the following parental # 2 : In genotypes are crossed: AABbCc X AabbCc. What is the probability of the offspring having the following genotype, AABbcc? C. CCL .) SUM RULE: States the probability of an event that can occur in 2 or more independent ways is the sum of their separate probabilities. (The probability of either one of the other of two mutually exclusive events ccurring is the sum of their indiv. probabilities) Problem #3 : A die (one member of a pair of dice) has six sides. If you have one toss of the die, what is the probability of getting either a 2 or 32 Problem #4: In pea plants, purple flower color is dominant to white. When two parents heterozygous for flower color mate, what is the probability that the offspring will have either the homozygous dominant or heterozygous genotype? (aka have purple flowers) SemrauExplanation / Answer
Problem# 2
If you see the parental genotypes:
AABbCc will have four gametes/combinations i.e. ABC, ABc, AbC and Abc
AabbCc will also have four gametes/combinations i.e. AbC, Abc, abC and abc
So, if you draw a table for different combinations:
So, you can see the required genotype AABbcc is only one out of 16 genotypes produced by crossing of four gametes of each parent.
Therefore the answer should be 1/16.
Problem#4:
If purple color is dominant, it will show purple color if heterozygous also.
Let say PP is dominant genotype for purple color and pp is for white color.
So the gametes produced by heterozygous parents will be Pp (according to the problem).
These gametes will produce three types of genotypes having purple flowers(PP and Pp) while one with white flower(pp). eg
p
So offsprings of 25% homozygous genotype or 50% hetrozygous genotype will be produced.
