B1105 Homework #2 (based on C. 2 and 3) Instructor: Cabrera 9d. Human neurons and muscle cells produce different proteins and perform different functions because they contain different DNA. [3 pts) Virulent bacteri killed) 10. To identify the molecule responsible for transforming nonvirulent bacteria into virulent ones, Avery, MacLeod, and McCarty did the following experiment. They killed the virulent bacteria and prepared an extract to transform nonvirulent bacteria into virulent ones. The extract was divided in four fractions. One fraction was left untreated and the other three were treated with enzymes that degrade RNA, proteins and DNA respectively. The results are shown in RNase the figure. Explain how the result would be Nonvirulent bacteria Nonvinulent bacteria Nonvirulent bacterla bacteria different IF INSTEAD, the molecules responsible for transformation were proteins. question no. 10
In the given diagram it is seen that the conical flask in which DNAse in poured that is becoming non virulent and in the rest of the flask it becomes virulent as well as non virulent both which clears that the material which was being transferred from the killed bacteria to the non virulent bacteria transforms and makes it virulent and since the flask in which DNAse was put that became non virulent because DNAse acted on the DNA which was being transferred from the killed bacteria to the non virulent bacteria and causing it to become virulent.
But if instead of DNA, protein would have been the material which transferred from the killed bacteria to the non virulent bacteria then the flask in which Protease was put that would have shown the non virulent bacteia and other rest would have shown virulent and non virulent both kinds of bacteria.
