Question

Problem4 ? A water tank.standing on the floor has to small holes vertically above one another punched in one side. The holes are 4 cm and 8 cm above the floor. How high does the water stand in the tank (calculate H) when the jets from the holes but the floor at the same point? Calculate the distance x. At what depth should a single hole be made to maximize x? A gas follows the cyclic process shown below. If during the entire cycle the gas gains 5 J of heat, calculate the work done by the gas during the process # 1. calculate the work done by the gas during the process # 2. calculate the work done by the gas during the process # 3. if the internal energy U of the gas is given by the following dependence law: U = 3/2 PV. calculate the variation of the internal energy Delta U during the process # 3. how much heat is lost during the Process # 3?

Explanation / Answer

a) work done in process 1 is 0 as volume is constant

b) work done in process 2 = 20*(0.7-0.2) = 10J

C)work done in process 3 = -5J -  work done in process 2

= -15 J

D) Change in internal energy = 3/2{40*0.2 - 20*0.7} = 1.5*-6 = -9 J

E) Heat lost = -( work done +change ininternal energy) = 15+9 = 24 J
