Question
A student performing the centripetal force experiment forgot to record some of the data When she did the experiment, she found that the speed at which the accelerated block separated from the magnet was v_c0 = 114 cm/s. She redid the experiment by reordering the magnet that the maximum magnetic force for break away. F_c, was 3.25 Times the original value. F_c0. (a) Please write the equation for the centripetal force in terms of F_c0, m_t0, v_c0, and r_0. (b) Please write the equation for the centripetal force in terms of new variables. Write equation that shows relationship between this equation and equation in part(a). (c) At what new speed will the accelerated block break away from the magnet? Please solve this problem using symbolic algebra.Explanation / Answer
here,
initial speed , vco = 1.14 m/s
Fc = 3.25 * Fco
(a)
the centripital force , Fco = mto * vco^2/ro .....(1)
(b)
the new force , Fc = mto * vc^2 /ro ....(2)
Fc = 3.25 * Fco .....(3)
from (1) , (2) and (3)
3.25 * vco^2 = vc^2
(c)
vc = sqrt( 3.25 * vco^2)
vc = sqrt( 3.25 * 1.14^2)
vc = 2.06 m/s
the speed at which the accelrated block break away from the magnet is 2.06 m/s
