Ans1) An enzyme is abiocatalyst that can increase the rate ofthe chemical reaction without itself being changed in the overall process. Virtually all cellular reaction or processes are mediated by enzyme.They have several properties which makes them unique are:-
a) most of the enzymes are protein in nature.
b) They are highly specific and exhibit eneormous catalytic power.
Enzymes belong to the protein macromolecule.
Ans 2) An enzyme lowers the activation energy of the reactiom, thereby increasing the fraction of molecules that have enough energy to attain the transition state and making the reactiongo fasterin both the direction. In other words it can be said that enzymes facilitate the formation of the transition state.
Ans 3) Most of the enzymes are made up of protein which is composed of amino acids. The 3D structure refers to the unique structure where the protein assumes as a consequence of the interactions between the side chains in their primary structure. The primary structure of the protein chains folding into tertiary structure. The following types of covalent and non-covalent bonds are involved which led to the formation and stabilization of the 3D structure are:-
a) Hydrophobic in teraction,
b) electrostatic interaction.
c) Hydrogen bonds
d) Van der waals force
e) The covalent bonds is thye formation of disulphite bond between the sulphur containing amino acid specially cysteine amino acid.
Ans4) Substrate can be termed as a substance which is converetd into product by the enzymatic reaction. In this process the substance is converted into product by the enzymatic process.
We know enzymes are very specific that means that only a specific substarte can only bind to the active side of the enzyme. This binding of the substate to the enzyme can be explained by the lock and key model. In this model the lock is the enzyme and the substate is the key. As a specifc key can only bind to the lock similarly a spcific substate can only bind to the enzyme to form product by the enzymatic reaction.
