The AIM of this lab exercise: Does Eastern Mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) population structure differ with season?
- You will compare population structure in an FIU pond from February 2018 (previous semester) with the data that you collect this semester (September 2018).
1- You should interpret what the net reproductive rate (R0), the mean generation time (G), the intrinsic population growth rate (r), and the optimal age for sexual maturity tells us about mosquitofish populations. (Hint: This part is a good place for references!)
2- Discuss the similarities and/or differences between the Gambusia population that you sampled and the other two populations. What might cause these similarities and differences? Discuss and providebiological explanations (interpretations).

!- R. , G and r are found increase in september as comapred to february but optimal sexual maturity is ame in february and september month. this tells that mosquito population is more in september because mosquito larvae are the primary source for mosquito fish.
2-- similarties is that both february and september has same optimal sexual maturity i,e, 120 days means juvenile stage of fish dont depnd on mosquito but adult stages R> , G ,r indicate adult primarily depend on mosquito .
3-- it means that malarial spread by mosquito is less in february as compared to september. september season is favourable for mosquito growth.
4-- we can say that by introducing mosquitofish(Gambusia sp.) in mosquito borne area , disease spread by mosquito can be prevented because this fish can eat mosquito being its primary source.
