Question
In vector addition or subtraction only like components will add or subtract. This important aspect of vector analysis is very important in properly evaluating motion problems in more than one dimension. Start by reading through the first 3 sections of chapter 4, in the textbook, then respond to the following questions. How do the equations of motions, for constant or non-constant acceleration, change if we are now working in 2 dimensions? How does writing our equations of motion in vector notation simplify our calculations?Explanation / Answer
I am sure which book is text is talking about, in response to the question,
The kinematic equation remains the same while using vectorform of different parameters ( such as , velocity, acceleration etc.) in 2D as well. Uniform acceleration retains its form of the equations.
In non uniform cases, vector equation will a time derivative of the original form in general.
In vector notation, if written, the equation of motion will simplify the calculation, since simple vector sum will serve purpose. This the is advantage of using vector notation.
