Question
Bihlišms. Why is Volvox now considered multicellular? ish between colonial and multicel ur Knowledge 1. In your own words, describe the evolutionary trend for increasing organ- ismal complexity, using examples from this lab to lustrate your answer. We often imply that multicellular organisms are more advanced (and therefore more successful) than unicellular or colonial organisms. Ex- plain why this is not true, using examples from this lab or 2. Following is a list of tissues that have specialized functions and demon- strate corresponding specialization of subcellular structure. Match the tissue with the letter of the cell structures and organelles listed to the right that would be abundant in these cells. Use your text for a descrip- tion of any organelles or structures that are unfamiliar to you 3. Cell Structures Tissues . Enzyme (protein)-secreting cells and Organelles a plasma membrane b. mitochondria of the pancreas c. Golgi apparatus d. chloroplast e. endoplasmic reticulum f. cilia and flagella g. vacuole h. ribosome Insect flight muscles . Cells lining the respiratory passages White blood cells that engulf and destroy invading bacteria i. lysosome Leaf cells of cactiExplanation / Answer
1. Evolution is the series of change which we see in the organisms over a span of million years.
Eukaryotes have evolved from prokaryotes. Prokaryotes have undeveloped nucleus where as eukaryotes have well developed nucleus as well as it also has membrane bound cell organelles.
If we see a bacteria and a human there is a huge difference in the development. There is a difference between unicellular bacteria and unicellular fungi that is yeast. So, organismal complexity increases from Monera to animalia.
Poriferans are least developed and mammals are most developed. Poriferans have cellular level of organization and we mammals have organ system level of organization.
2. If we compare archaebacteria and fungi or algae or plants or even humans we cannot survive in harsh climate whereas they can. They are found in the places with extreme conditions. So, in this case they will be considered more advanced than the multicellular organisms.
3.
Enzyme- ribosomes as proteins are synthesised by ribosomes.
Insect flight muscle- mitochondria. It is known as power House of the cells. It synthesize ATP.
Cells lining respiratory passages- cilia and flagella.
WBC- lysosomes. It protects the body from foreign organisms.
Leaves of cacti- vacuole. It stores water.
