Question

Find the acceleration reached by each of the two objects shown in figure below if the coefficient of kinetic friction between the 7.00 kg object and the plane is 0.310. m/s^2 An object with mass m_1 = 4.00 kg, rests on a frictionless horizontal table and is connected to a cable that passes over a pulley and is then fastened to a hanging object with mass m_2 = 10.0 kg, as shown in the figure below. Find the acceleration of each object and the tension in the cable. mass m_1 m/s^2 mass m_2 m/s^2 tension N

Explanation / Answer

6) Here, 12 * 9.8 - T = 12a

Also, T - 7 * 9.8 * sin37 - 0.310 * 7 * 9.8 * cos37 = 7a

Solving above two equations

=> acceleration , a= 3.122 m/s2

b)   Here, 10 * 9.8 - T = 10a

Also, T = 4a

Solving above two equations

acceleration of mass m1 = 7 m/s2

acceleration of mass m2 = 7 m/s2

Tension = 4 * 7 = 28 N
