Show My Work kg-m2/s2. It can be written interms of the Kinetic energy K (Chapter 5) has dimensions momentum p (ahapter 6) and mass m as (a) Determine the proper units for momentum using dimensional analysis. (Use the following as necessary kg, m and s) 1 kg mvs? What are the units of p in terms of a newton and another fundamental SI unit? (use the following as necessary N, m, and (b) The unit of force is the newton N. where 1 N Need Help? From the defination of momentum,
p = mv
where, m is the mass and v is the velocity. So
p = m v = (kg) (m/s)
Hence, unit of momentum is kg-m/s
b)We know that,
P = mv
multiplying and dividing by t, we get
P = m (v/t) xt = ma x t
P = ma x t = F x t
P = F x t
F has unit of Newtona and t is in seconds
Hence, P = N-s
