Question

Write a 1 page overview of the current state of the environment, pointing out both areas of improving environmental quality and areas that require improvement. Select one figure or table from the report. Interpret the figure/table. Was the figure/table easy to understand? What were the key variables? What helped you understand the figure/table? If the data depicts one factor, how are other factors influenced? Does the figure/table inspire you to ask additional questions? Your work must adhere to APA rules for formatting and citation.

Explanation / Answer

The current state of the environment is many regions of our world is suffering from flood.Heavy rain and floods have once again brought many parts of the country to a stand still. Specially in india many parts of states are suffering from a huge loss due to flood.More than 1000 people have died in floods across india this mansoon and as sheets of huge rainfall tells about that increasing rainfall are increasing death.

Reasons why the flood caused every year:-

the flood occurs when a sudden downpour proves so heavy that the underlying ground cannot cope with huge amount of the water becomes saturated before it has a chance to drain away. just six hour of rainfall sometimes become sufficient for causing flood that what is excalty now a days in kerela, india

The major ways to improve environmental qaulity and areas that require improvement so that we can reduce our land's impact on flooding

since floods can take place on a massive scale, it may be difficult to trace how the choices we make on our own land can contribute to flooding. however, owning means having a relationship to rainwater flow.

1. increase land cover by planting - especially native plant.plant cover increases infiltration of rainwater into the ground.native plants require less care, have deeper roots than traditional grass and support wildlife.

2.plant or preserve trees - the collision of the raindrop dislodge soil particles, which leads erosion.when trees are left present in the landscape, and allowed to grow tall, their multi-layered canopies act as shock absorbers to the fast falling raindrops, and help slow the infiltration rate of stormwater. the way we can also control flood.

3.leave the leafs on the lawn- it protect the soil itself, as well as slow down water to better infiltrate soil and retain water. when organic matter residue is left on the soil surface it shields the vulnerable top layer of soil and it even requires less work on our part to allow this to happen, making it truly sustainable.

4.Use swales to hold and transport water - swales are swell mini ditches that move water across the contours of a landscape and allow time for it to penetrate the ground. They can be made at any size/scale based on the context and setting and are considered a passive form of catchment because it requires no active maintenance or energy input once installed. which helps us in water harvesting also and deviating the water for several uses instead of wastage.

5.use permeable pavement or pavers in landscaping- we can create boarders with hardscaping that will allow the movement of stormwater through the surface. we must create the strong dams to protect for floods

6.must avoid resident in flood suffering areas- goverment must insure that people must not create their shelters such areas where foods can easily be caused.

goverment must follow two methods to prevent from flood:-

basically two methods are-

1.structural methods:-

a. Dam construction

b. Embankment construction

c. River/Channel strengthening

d. Flood attenuation lakes

2. non structural method:-

a. floodplain management

b. stream corridor protection

c. floodproofing of existing structures

d. removing flood-prone development

e. stormwater management

f. watershed management

g. flood forecasting
