Question
The temperature of steam depends on the air pressure. What is the temperature of the steam if the air pressure was 96.6 pascals? Just give me the whole number here. It will be between 80 and 120 degrees celsius. This silly program has problems with units and scientific notation. Remember that the equation for the temperature of the steam is: T = 100 + 0.2753 ( pressure in kilopascals - 101.3 kilopascals) STP or Standard Temperature and Pressure is 101.3 kPA. Water boils and makes steam at 100 degrees celsius at STP, by definiton. This is why at high elevations which have low air pressure water boils at a lower temperature and it is difficult to get a good cup of tea or coffee.
Explanation / Answer
T=100+0.2753*(pressure in kPa-101.3 kPa)
given pressure to be 96.6 kPa
then temperature=100+0.2753*(96.6-101.3)=98.706 degree ceclius
nearest whole number is 99 degree celcius.
