Question
I got the answer right but am not exactly sure how to do the math for it? Can someone show the calculation?
Boxes A and Bin (Figure 1) both remain at rest. Figure 1 of 1 30 N 30 N 20 kg 10 kg A, 0,4 0.5 Part A is the friction force on A larger than, smaller than, or equal to the friction force on B? o The friction force on A is equal to the friction force on B The friction force on A is smaller than the friction force on B. The friction force on A is larger than the friction force on B Submit My Answers Give Up CorrectExplanation / Answer
for A:
N - 20g = 0
N = 20 x 9.8 = 196 N
maximum value of static friction = us N = 0.4 x 196 = 78.4 N
that greater than applied force 30 N .
hence it will not move so value of friction force act, f = Applied force = 30 N
{ to make net force in horizontal zero }
for B:
N = 10x 9.81 = 98 N
f _max = us N = 0.5 x 98 = 49 N that is greater than 30 N
it will also not move so
f = Fapplied = 30 N
hence friction force is equal for both the cases.
