Question

You are flying really fast over the surface of the Earth at constant speed of 0.75c. You see two synchronized clocks are on points X and Y. They are synchronized in the earth surface reference frame. As you pass over the clock at X, both your stopwatch and the clock at X read t = 0. As soon as you pass the clock at X, are clocks X or Y slower or faster than yours ? Compare all three clocks, yours, X and Y. Point Y is further away from X and you are moving toward Y after passing X. When you pass over Y, does the clock Y shows the same time, earlier or later time? Discuss answer (a) and (b). Are they consistent or contradictory? Give a brief explanation for either case.

Explanation / Answer

when a body moves with a relativistic speed, it will slow down as compare to real time.

a) since clocks X and Y are based in earth, they would be faster than your clock.

b) Clock Y will show a later time owing to the fact that it's far from clock X

c) Both the results are consistent.
