2. Type of Disaster: Natural Flood

3. Beginning and ending dates and times of the disaster: July 2018- August 2018, Time not specified.

4. An extraordinary south-east monsoon has unleased flood and landslides in the state of kerela with high magnitude. This was the worst flood to hit the place in a century. According to the Indian Meteorological Department report, 'From June 1 to August 16, Kerela has recieved a cummulative rainfall of 2227.26 mm, projecting an excess of 37.49% this monsoon.'

Recent research indicates that the fluctuation of monsoonal wind in the Arabain sea branch could be related to climate change. The intensity of rainfall increased in the ecogolically fragile zone of the western ghat of the Indian subcontinent resulting into opening of all the dams in the area resulting into flooding of the low lying areas. Clearing of forest (encroachment) in the foothills also resulted to flood.
