As the P and S waves travel out from an earthquake the P waves get progressively farther ahead of the S waves therefore the farther a seismic recording station is from the earthquake epicenter the greater will be the difference in time of travel of arrival between the P and S waves

Earthquakes area ocation by time difference in P and S wave method are precise and effective in these following ways -

* provides best image of the structural subsurface feature.

* It can detect both lateral Nad depth variations in a physically relevant parameter.

* It can be used to know stratigraphic and depositional feature .

* sometimes hydrocarbons can too directed through this method.

But sometimes this earthquake area location by time difference between P and S waves method have limitations too -

* data is expensive to acquire and data reduction and processing can be time consuming and it repairs requires a sophisticated computer hardware.

* It requires geophysical surveys which is quite expensive and time taking.
