Question
The following graphs display a Boltzmann Distribution where the y-axis resprents probability and the x-axis represnts energy. The question is asking which graph displays curve of increasing temperature where Ta > Tb > Tc. Ignore the bar graphs covering graphs 2 and 4. Why is graph 3 the correct one, and why is graph 1 incorrect?
On of the sets of graphs shows the probability that a DoF will gain an energy delta E from its interaction with three different thermal baths: T_A > T_B > T_C. Which?Explanation / Answer
According to Boltzman distribution :
We have fiction of energy as:
f(E)= 2(E/)1/2 (1/kT)3/2 exp(-E/kT)
As y axis represents probability
n(E)= noe-E/kT
Average speed increases with increasing temperature also peak of curve shifts to right if T increases .
Hence curve point downwards according to temperature TA>TB>TC so graph 3 is correct one
