Question

a conductive bar moves right Refer to the image to the right A conductive bar mom to the right with a velocity of 0 5m/s across a conductive path the magnetic field has a strength of 85 mT. the distance from top conductor to bottom conductor is 15cm What is the direction of induced current? (clock-wise or counter clockwise) What is the magnitude of the induced voltage and which end of the movable bar will there be positive volts? If the resistor has a value of 10 ohm, determine the magnitude of the current.

Explanation / Answer

a) If the magnetic field is into the page, then direction of current = counter clockwise, or otherwise

b) V = Blv =85 x 10^-3 ( 15 x 10^-2) (0.5) = 0.637x 10^ -2 V apprx

c) I = v/R = 0.637x 10^ -2 /10 = 0.637 mA apprx
