Question

I have another question:

1. A person is pushing a heavy wooden box across a horizontal concrete floor. The mass of the box is 85.0 kg. The person pushes on the box with a force that is directed at an angle of 40.0o below horizontal. The box moves at a constant speed of 20.0 cm/s. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the box and the floor is 0.230.

a) Find the magnitude of the force exerted by the person on the box.

b) Find the total work done on the box after it has moved a distance of 8.00 meters.

Thanks.

Explanation / Answer

equate the force

as velocity is constant that means net force is zero

force in horizontal direction

a.)FCos40 = u*N

Fcos40 = u(mg+Fsin40)

FCos40 = 0.23(85*9.81 + F SIn40)

F = 310.23 N

b.)Work done = Force *displacement

W = FCos40*8 = 1901.20 J
