Question

Imagine your friends superwoman Sue and and superman Larry are on two stationary boats in a still pond separated by a distance, Sue releases one toy duck every 1/27 s. i.e. 27 ducks are released in one second. The ducks, once released, all swim toward Larry with a same speed of 54 m/s in the water. How many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Larry's boat moves toward Sue with a speed of 18 m/s, how many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Larry's boat moves away from Sue with a speed of 18 m/s, how many ducks docs Larry pick up in one second? If Sue's boat moves toward Larry with a speed of 27 m/s, how many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Sue's boat moves away from Larry with a speed of 27 m/s. how many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Larry's boat moves toward Sue with a speed of 18 m/s and Sue s boat moves toward Larry with a speed of 27 m/s. how many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Larry's boat moves away from Sue with a speed of 18 m/s and Sue's boat moves toward Larry with a speed of 27 m/s, how many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Larry's boat moves toward Sue with a speed of 18 m/s and Sue's boat moves away from Larry with a speed of 27 m/s, how many ducks does Larry pick up in one second? If Larry's boat moves away from Sue with a speed of 18 m/s and Sue's boat moves away from Larry with a speed of 27 m/s, how many ducks docs Larry pick up in one second?

Explanation / Answer

Here duck's speed is 54m/s

if he collects 27 ducks

so time is t = 1 s

so distance covered = 54 m

now there are 27 ducks

so there will be 1 duck every 2 m

PART a)

first at rest it will collect 27 ducks

Part b)

when it will be at motion towards sue

it will move 18 m towards sue

so it will collect 9 more ducks

so i 27 + 9 = 36

PART c) when he moves away

then he will cover 18 m

so he will cover 9 less ducks

so it is 27 - 9 = 18
