Question

1.) I will rate highly and quickly for a detailed and accurate answer. (Answers absolutely must show all work and calculations).

2. Answers must round to no less than 6 decimal places when applicable and explanations (where required) must be complete explanations.

3. If you can please explain what you are doing and why you are doing it, I would appreciate it a lot because I am very lost on this topic and I have tried very hard to understand (I am not being lazy). Thank you so much.

2. An Isolated Conductor. (1 pts) Two students are discussing the problem of an isolated spherical conductor at potential V. Student 1 says, "This isolated spherical conductor is a capacitor." Student 2 responds saying, "No, a capacitor is always made up of two conducting plates with charge +Q and -Q separated by a distance d Which student is incorrect? Explain your answer.

Explanation / Answer

both students are correct.

to analyse it better we need to understand definition of capacitor.

capacitor is a device which store charge. a isolated conductor can store charge but yes its storing capacity is very less but it can store charge. to support it we can consider an example of earth. earth is spherical isolated body but it act like a capacitor.

to support our point we can even suppose another plate of charge at infinity so which makes an isolated conductor a system of two bodies having charge.
