Question

(15%) Problem 6: You throw an object up with a speed of vo,-13 m/s from a height ofy-25 m. 33% Part (a) How long, in seconds, does t take for the object to reach the ground? 33% Part (b) What is the object's final velocity, in meters per second, as it impacts the ground? sin0 cos0 cotanasinacos 1213 Degrees ORadians Submit Hint I give up! Hints:-_ deduction per hint Hants remaining:- Feedback: deduction per feedback. 33% Part (c) Find the time, in seconds, if you instead threw the object down with the same velocity, vor. "

Explanation / Answer

a) Y = Uyt - 0.5gt^2

-25 = 13t - 0.5*9.8*t^2

4.9t^2 - 13t - 25 = 0

t = 13 + sqrt(13^2 + 4*25*4.9) / 9.8

= 3.94 s

b) Vy = Uy - gt

= 13 - 9.8*3.94 = -25.67 m/s

so the velocity at the ground will be 25.67 m/s

c) H = ut + 0.5gt^2

25 = 13t + 0.5*9.8*t^2

4.9t^2 + 13t - 25 = 0

t = -13 + sqrt(13^2 + 4*25*4.9) / 9.8

= 1.3s
