Problem 20.33 7 of 11 > Part A In (Figure 1), the charge q 0.480 × 10-9 C Find the electric potential at z = 0.600 m Express your answer to three significant figures and include appropriate units Value Units SubmitPrey X Incorrect, Try Again; 3 attempts remaining Previous Answers Request Answer Part B Find the value of between 0 and 1.00 m where the electric potential is zero Express your answer to three significant figures and include appropriate units Figure 1 of 1 2q +5q 1.00 m 0 1.00 m Value Units

Explanation / Answer

Part A -

Electric potential at a point, P = k*q / r

So, electric point at x, P = k*(-2q) / 0.60 + k*(5q) / (1 - 0.60) = k[-2(0.48 x 10^-9) / 0.6 + 5(0.48 x 10^-9) / 0.4

= (9 x 10^9 x 0.48 x 10^-9)[-2/0.6 + 5/0.5] = 4.32 x [10 - 3.33] = 28.81 V

Part -B

suppose the point is at a distance d from (-2q) charge.

so by the condition -

k*(-2q) / d + k*(5q) / (1 - d) = 0

=> 2 / d = 5 / (1-d)

=> 2(1-d) = 5d

=> 2 = 7d

=> d = 2 / 7 = 0.286 m from (-2q) charge.
