Explanation / Answer

For travelling 38m downwards s=38, without any initial velocity u=0, time taken can be found by s=ut+0.5gt^2

So, 38= 0.5*9.8*t^2

So, t=2.78s

Now, distance covered along horizontal=s, with initial velocity u= 10 m/s, a= 1.6t m/s^2, t=2.78s can be found by

S= integral(udt) from t=0 to t=2.78 + integral (atdt) from t=0 to t=2.78

So, horizontal distance the rocket travels before reaching the ground is 10*2.78+ 1.6*2.78^3 / 3 = 27.8+ 11.46 = 39.26 m
