Question
A wildebeest and a leaf are dropped out of an airplane. Which will experience greater air resistance as it falls, the wildebeest or the leaf? Explain your answer. Which will reach terminal speed more quickly? Explain your answer. If you hit a wall, will the force that you exert on the wall be greater than, or less than equal to the force that the wall exerts on you? Explain your answer. A strong man from the circus is being driven in a car that is moving at a constant speed of 5 km/h. He decides he will test his strength by trying to stop the car so he pushes the seat as hard as he can in the direction opposite to the motion of the car. Why is not able to stop the car?Explanation / Answer
Q28 (A)...Wildebeest will experience greater air resistance as it falls because surface area of wildbeest is greater than that of leaf.
But still wildebeest falls first because it goes on accelerating for longer times as even large air resistance is not enough to balance the large force due to gravity very quickly, so it takes time to achieves terminal speed
Q28 (b).Leaf achieves terminal speed more quickly. It is because force due to gravity is very small and can be balanced by air resistance very quickly.
Q29, Force exerted by me will be equal to that exerted by wall. This is because of Newton's third law of motion, every action has equal and opposite reaction.
Q30. According to Newtons first law, a body in motion remain in motion until acted upon by external force, The external force on car-man system can be friction offered by ground. Here the force is applied by the strong person sitting in car is internal so will have no effect.
