Question
This is another photograph of part of die bottom of the Grand Canyon. You are standing exit of Grand Canyon Villiage, on the south rim of the Canyon, and looking at the north side of the canyon. All of the rocks in this scene are sedimentary rocks. Analyze tins canyon scene. Then, tiling a pen, draw a line on the photograph to show the exact position of an unconformity. What kind of unconformity did yon identity? What evidence did you apply to justify drawing an unconformity where von did on the above photograph?Explanation / Answer
Unconformaties are the rocks which are subjected to erosion . The unconformity is angular . It divides overlying paleozoic sediments from underlying late proterozoic sediments As the underlying rocks are the tilted one so the unconformity in the rocks is the angular one. As we can see in the image the older package of sediments has been titlted so it is an angular unconformity.
This canyon is the best example for this becasue tilted rocks is of precambiran age and are overlain by younger sediments of phanerozoic age and the angular uncoformity clearly divides the two
