Question
A uniformly charged disk of radius 35.0 cm carries a charge density of 8.00 x 10^-3 C/m^2. Calculate the electric field on the axis of the disk at the following distances from the center of the disk. Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. MN/C Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. MN/C Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. MN/CExplanation / Answer
Eelctric due to a charged disk is given by
E = (sigma/2e0){ 1- Z/sqrt(Z^2 +R^2)
a. here Z = 0.05 m, R = 0.35 m
also
sigma/2e0 = 8*10^-3 /(2*8.85 *10^-12) = 4.52*10^8
so EF E = 4.52*10^8 * ( 1- 0.05)/sqrt(0.05^2 + 0.35^2)
E = 121 MN/C (answer)
----------------------------
b. here z = 0.1 m R = 0.35m
so EF = 4.52 *10^8 * ( 1-0.1)/( sqrt ( 0.1^2 + 0.35^2)
EF = 11.17 MN/C (answer)
-------------------------------
c, here z = 0.5 m and R = 0.35 m
so EF = 4.52 *10^8 * (1- 0.5)/sqrt ( 0.5^2 + 0.35^2)
EF = 3.7 MN/C (answer)
-----------------------------------------
d. here z = 2m R = 0.35 m
so EF = 4.52 *10^8 * (1- 2)/(sqrt(2^2 +0.35^2)
EF = 2.22 MN/C (answer)
