Newton's second law of motion is applied (Fnet=m.a) where m is the mass and a is the acceleration.

Incase of mass mA, Fnet=T-5.20g, and for mass mB, Fnet=7.95g-T

where T is the tension in string, g=9.8m/s2

7.95g-T=7.95a....eqn(1)

T-5.20g=5.20a.....eqn(2)

From (2) T=50.96+5.20a....eqn(3)

substituting (3) in (1) and solving

we get

a=2.049m/s2
