Question

1.suppose you have a basaltic magma at depth beneath the earths surface. some of the minerals with highest melting point crystallize and settle to the bottom of the magma body. Is the silica content of the remaining magma higher or lower tha the original basaltic magma?

2.give the name of a mid-ocean ridge and its location. For example, if you were naming a magnatic arc, rather than a ridge, a formal geographic/geologic name for one magnatic arc would be the Aleutian arc in the northern pacific ocean. what is an analogous name for an exampleof a mid-ocean ridge?

3. Explain how the chemistry of magma influences the explosiveness of a volcano. How magma chemistry influences the physical characteristics of the magma? how those physical characteristics influence how explosive a resulting eruption is and why? what does this means in terms of the relationship between magma chemistry and the explosiveness of a volcano.

Explanation / Answer

If the rock contains high amount of silicate, that can easily solidifies the hot magma.

Suppose granite contains almost 73% silica and basalt contains 53% silica, thus, the granite easily solidified than the Basalt. Hence, the granite rock is always intrusive (solidified within the Earth crust) rock and the basalt is the extensive rock (solidified on the Earth crust).

Hence, the silicate content in the remaining magma is lower than the original magma because silicate content in the reaming magma has solidified in the bottom of the magma.
