Question

Please help me answer the questions. The data I collected was done by these equations: a=(v^2-vi^2)/2(d) Stopping acceleration=-14.63

Vf^2=0m/s^2+2(9.8m/s^2)(.1meters) Final velocity or velocity on impact= 1.4m/s

time it took for the knife to hit the penut butter= (0-1.4m/s)/9.8m/s^2=.14 seconds

Time it took for the knife to stop when enetering the penut butter. 1.4/-14.63m/s^2=-.1 seconds

Explanation / Answer

To get the impact velocity we use Vi^2=U^2-2*g*h =0+2*(-9.8)*0.1=1.96

So, Vi=1.4m/s

Here final velocity is 0 because particle come to rest.

To calculate stopping acceleration we use a=(U^2-Vi^2)/2*s =(0-1.4^2)/2*6.7=-14.63m/s^2

Time required= 1.4/(-14.63)= 0.1s
