Hooke's Law Physics Lab Questions

Pre Lab B-16 Hooke's Law Read manual H-16 therm Please show your work for all of the folloning calculatiuns. A mass of 100 g is hang on a spring, and the spring is stretched by 20 cm from its equilibrium position Calculate the force exerted on the spring. When an additional 50 gmass is added, the spring is stretched by 30 cm. Calculate the additional force exerted en the spring Calculate the additional stretch of the spring Calculate the force constant of the spring k by using k-dFldr Nm. write the algebraic expression for calculating the relative uncertainty of Note that k depends on the additional force Ai and the additional stretch 4x, if the uncertainty in the mass measurement is am 10.2 g, and the uncertainty in gravitational acceleration g can be ignored, what is the uncertainty in the additional force? If the uncertainty in each position measurement is ox t 0.1cm, what is the uncertainty in the additional stretch of the spring? (Note that Ax is the difference between two position readings.)

Explanation / Answer

here,

mass of object, m = 100 g = 0.1 kg

stretched distance, x = 20 cm = 0.2 m

from hooke's law,
spring force = spring constant * stretched distance
F = k * x

Part D :
from newton law of motion : SUM(F) = 0
spring force = force due to gravity
kx = mg

spring constant, k = mg/x
spring constant, k = 0.1 * 9.81 / 0.2
spring constant, k = 4.905 N

Part a :
Spring force, F1 = k*x
spring force, F1 = 4.905 * 0.2
spring force, F1 = 0.987 N

Part B :
Spring force, F2 = k*x
spring force, F2 = 4.905 * 0.3
spring force, F2 = 1.472 N

additional force , F = F2 - F1
additional force , F = 1.472 - 0.987
additional force , F = 0.485 N

part C :
additional stretch, x = f/k = 0.485 / 4.905
additional stretch, x = 0.09887 m = 9.88 cm
