While in a tucked position, as in Figure A, she rotates about her center of mass at a rate of 6.03 rads. Her moment of inertia about this axis is 16.7 kg- m, short time later the aerialist is in the straight position, as shown in Figure B. ifthe moment of inertia about her center of mass in this position is now 31.9 kg m what is her rotational speed? Number rad/ s Figure A Figure B Previous w 2 check Answer o Next lExR Hint

Explanation / Answer

here,

for A

the moment of inertia , I1 = 16.7 kg.m^2

the rotational speed , w1 = 6.03 rad/s

for B

the moment of inertia , I2 = 31.9 kg.m^2

let the rotational speed be w2

using conservation of angular momentum

I1 * w1 = I2 * w2

16.7 * 6.03 = 31.9 * w2

w2 = 3.16 rad/s

the final angular speed is 3.16 rad/s
