(a) Determine the image distance in this situation. 45 cm (b) Determine the image height. 1.5 cm (c) Check the answers that correctly describe the image characteristics. (Select all that apply.) The image is real. The image is virtual. The image is upright. The image is inverted. (d) What happens to the image if the object is moved a little closer to the mirror? (Select all that apply.) The image height becomes larger. The image height becomes smaller. The image height remains the same. The image moves closer to the mirror. The image moves farther from the mirror. The image position remains the same.Explanation / Answer
a)
do=30.0cm, f=-18.0cm, ho=8.00cm
1/f=1/do+1/di
-1/18=1/30+1/di
di=-11.25cm
Negative sign indicates object is opposite side of the object.
b)
m=-di/do=hi/ho
-(-11.25)/30 = hi/8.00
hi= (11.25*8)/30 = 3.00cm
c)
Since object is opposite side of the object and the mirror is convex we can conclude that the image is virtual.
Positive sign is image height indicates image is upright.
