We have discussed many different environmental problems and physical hazards that impact humans. Pick one and describe what it is, what causes it (physical processes and energy inputs), where it is likely to occur, the role that humans have played in contributing to the problem, and what we could do to mitigate the adverse effects. It’s okay if climate change is a factor in your problem, but don’t choose climate change as your topic, choose something smaller (e.g. hurricane, earthquake, acid rain, sink holes, etc).

Acid rain

There are various sources contributing to acid rain like automobiles, industries,power plants etc.

The emissions from these sources include SO2,NO2 etc.

The SO2 and NO2 when reacted with water vapour in the atmosphere form Sulphuric acid and Nitric acid respectively.When the conditions are conducive to rain they will fall as acid rain.

Mitigation

1.Power stations can use flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) to remove sulfur emissions.

2.Controlling emissions from automobiles

3.Using clean fuels

4.Saving enegry
