Enhancers and araC binding site in E. coli both are sites(short sequences) in DNA where regulatory proteins(activators) bind during the process of transcription. This is the common feature of botth. One main difference between them is with respect to the distance from promotor. Enhancers generally are located at great distances from the promoter, whereas the araC site is located closer to the promoter. Promoter-proximal elements(additional control elements that control transcription in eukaryotes) and the operator of the lac operon(segment of DNA that acts as switch in bacterial gene expression) both are regulatory sites in DNA located close to the promoter The difference between them is that there usually is more than one promoter-proximal element in the cell (eg.GC rich regions, CCAAT box etc), but only one lac operon. General transcription factors and sigma both are proteins that must bind to the promoter before RNA polymerase can initiate transcription. The difference between general transcription factors and sigma are sigma is part of the RNA polymerase holoenzyme, while the general transcription complex recruits RNA polymerase to the promoter.
