Having a hard time figuring out where to start and would appreciate the work shown as to how to get an an answer for A and B. 19:28 11% Verizon session masteringphysics.com Problem 8.3 I MasteringPhysics Problem 8.3 I On an air track, a 402.0 g glider moving to the right at 2.10 m/s collides elastically with a 503.0 g glider moving in the opposite direction at 3.10 m/s. Part A Find the velocity of first glider after the collision. 2.1 m/s to the left. v Give Up Submit incorrect; Try Again; 3 attempts remaining Part B Find the velocity of second glider after the collision m/s to the right. v R Submit Give UpExplanation / Answer
Given that
mass m1=0.402 kg
mass m2=0.503 kg
speed u1=2.1 m/s
speed u2=-3.1 m/s
basing on the concept of collision
now we find the speed of first glider after collision
speed v1=(m1-m2)u1/(m1+m2)+2*m2u2/(m1+m2)
=(0.402-0.503)*2.1/(0.402+0.503)-2*0.503*3.1(0.402+0.503)
=-0.2345--3.45
=-3.7 m/s
now we find the speed of second glider after collision
speed V2=2*0.402*2.1/(0.905)-(0.503-0.402)*3.1/(0.905)
=1.87-0.35
=1.52 m/s
