a 940 kg car slides on ice into the rear of a a 2460 kg truck that was at rest the pre collision speed of the car was 12.5 m/s. determine the post collision speed of the two entangled vehicles as they slide across the ice ? a 940 kg car slides on ice into the rear of a a 2460 kg truck that was at rest the pre collision speed of the car was 12.5 m/s. determine the post collision speed of the two entangled vehicles as they slide across the ice ? a 940 kg car slides on ice into the rear of a a 2460 kg truck that was at rest the pre collision speed of the car was 12.5 m/s. determine the post collision speed of the two entangled vehicles as they slide across the ice ?Explanation / Answer
Given,
Mass of car, m1 = 940 kg
Mass of truck, m2 = 2460 kg
Initial velocity of car, v1 = 12.5 m/s
Let us assume that v be the velocity of entangled vehicles, then
Applying law of conservation of momentum,
Momentum before collision, Pi = Momentum after collision, Pf
(m1 x v1) + (m2 x v2) = (m1 + m2) x v
(940 x 12.5) + 0 = (940 + 2460) x v
v = 3.456 m/s
So, the speed of two entangled vehicles will be 3.456 m/s.
