Question

A) Why does dropping a magnetic strip of metal decrease the magnetism of the strip of metal? B) Why does increasing the temperature of a magnet decrease its magnetism? A) What is a magnetic domain? B) Why can placing a demagnetized chunk of iron in a magnetic field cause the iron to become magnetized?? C) Why does putting a magnetic material at the center of a solenoid increase the magnetic field produced by the solenoid? A) Why is it very unlikely that the magnetic field of the earth is caused by the solid core of the earth being a permanent magnet? B) What causes the magnetic field of the earth? A) What is the solar wind? B) What are the Van Allen Belts? C) What causes the northern and southern lights?

Explanation / Answer

question 5 ,

b) the magnet is composed of dipoles .

when an object is magnetized the dipoles are all parallel to each other.

all the north poles on a dipole are facing in the same direction, and also the south poles.

when heating is applied , the molecules in the ferromagnetic object begin to vibrate making these dipoles move, and they will no longer be aligned.

a) this is also when dropping it, when you drop the magnet the dipole will be displaced because a force is hitting them and making them move.

hence, in both the conditions, alignment of the domain is getting disturbed leading to weaken magnetism.
