Question

Find the following. (In the figure, use C_1 = 16.80 mu F and C_2 = 10.80 mu F.) (a) the equivalent capacitance of the capacitors in the figure above mu F (b) the charge on each capacitor on the right 16.80-mu F capacitor mu C on the left 16.80-mu F capacitor mu C on the 10.80-mu F capacitor mu C on the 6.00-mu F capacitor mu C (c) the potential difference across each capacitor on the right 16.80-mu F capacitor V on the left 16.80-mu F capacitor V on the 10.80-mu F capacitor V on the 6.00-mu F capacitor V

Explanation / Answer

(a) Equivalent capacitance=C

then

1/C=1/C1 +1/16.8 + 1/C1

we got

C=5.6 uF

(b) charge on right C1=CV=50.4 uC

left C1=50.4 uC

on 10.8 uC=(10.8/16.8)*50.4=32.4 uC

on C2=18 uC

(c) Potential on right C1=Q/C1=3V

on left C1=3 V

on 10.8 uF=32.4/10.8=3 V

on C2=3 V
