Question
People do not change until they are uncomfortable." What are your thoughts on this statement? I have found that people must see the advantage of the change, understand the change, and be engaged to make a change not only occur but perhaps more importantly sustained. Woodward (2015) gives us some guidance regarding change; believe in the change, monitor the change and be positive in both success and failure. Too often, the change is expected to be swift and sure when in reality, change make take time. How do we stay the course while the change takes hold? There are tactics to help make change easer on those effected. What are those tactics and which have the highest level of priority? Be aware also of the importance of sustaining the change.

Why do we resist change?
We resist change because of a disturbance of our comfort level with the present. Why are we comfotable with present? This is because we know how our life proceeds in the present set-up. So we know are aware of what demands our current job makes from us, what remuneration we get, what working relationships we have, who are the persons with whom we are comfortable or uncomfortable, how our career is likely to progress, what we can afford to buy and what risks are involved in day to day working life. Similarly in our personal life we know our parents,life partner,friends,neighbors etc and what to expect from them. Similarly we know what our city is like, what facilities our community offers, what our weather conditions are. Thus the present offers us comfort of "knowledge" of our life processes.
So when change takes place we feel disturbed due to lack of knowledge of how our life proceeds further. So question is how to cope with the change with least personal trauma?
The key stratagies are:
1. Preparation of mind: Where possible prepare in advance for change- for instance search internet for a new place to which you are shifting. Ask Friends ,if any, in new work place, regarding the environment in that organization. Prior knowledge avoids sudden shocks.
2. Precautions to detect changes early: Early knowledge of change are always useful. If you notice that your health is deteriorating you may like to take steps to avoid worsening situation. It is just like you keep monitoring the weather , so that you do not get caught up in a blizard , or you are not affected by Sun-stroke.
3.Find what factors affect your comfort more: Identify the factors which effect you more and try to find solutions to those problems on priority
4. Change with age: Age and time are some important change factors which are unavoidable. So every must work on strategies to age gracefully and with maturity- develop methods to combat age related problems of health,social relationships , financial constraints etc.
5 .Asses advantages of new situation : We always tend to focus on negative factors. Instead study positive factors of the change. The new place may have better weather, better educational facilities for your children . The new job may have superior health insurance benefits
