Question
I need help solving these questions. I think that is the answer but I would like to know how to solve it and why the others cannot be the answer. Thank you!
21. Which of the following is a ketose to aldose transformation? a. Hexokinase. b. Phosphoglycerate mutase. c. Enolase. d. Aldolase e. Triose phosphate isomerase. 22. An enzyme used in both glycolysis and gluconeogenesis is: glucose-6-phosphatase. a. 3-P-glycerate kinase b. hexokinase. c. pho d. e. pymuvate kinase 23. receptor enzymes are: ion-channels. able to synthesize sulfate esters. a. transmembrane proteins. b. ligand gated c e. in the middle of Citrate Cycle d. able to synthesize phosphate estersExplanation / Answer
21 ans e
Hexokinase converts glucose to glucose 6 phosphate, here the aldehydic functional group does not change.
Phosphoglycerate mutase catalyses step 8 of glycolysis, converting 3 Phosphoglyceric acid to 2 Phosphoglyceric acid, here again the functional group does not change.
Enolase catalyses the conversion of 2 Phosphoglycerate into phosphoenol pyruvate. It cleaves the carbon- oxygen bonds.
Aldolase catalyses conversion of fructose 1,6 biphosphate into Triose phosphates.
Triose phosphate isomerase catalyses the conversion of Triose phosphate into glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate. So it is a reversible reaction catalysing ketose to aldose transformations.
