Question

Chapter 02, Problem 034 In the figure here, a red car and a green car move toward each other in adjacent lanes and parallel to an x axis. At time t- o, the red car is at x, 0 and the green car is at xg 210 m. If the red car has a constant velocity of 21.0 km/h, the cars pass each other at x 44.3 m. On the other hand, if the red car has a constant velocity of 42.0 km/h, they pass each other at x 76.4 m. What are (a) the initial velocity and (b) the (constant) acceleration of the green car? Include the signs. Green ar (a) Number (b) Number Unit Question Attempts o of s used save roR LATER SUSARITANSwER coprigit c 20oo 2017 by iohn wiey's sons, inc. or elated companes. Explanation / Answer

Here ,

vr = 21 km/hr = 5.83 m/s

for the case 1 ,

time taken is t

t = 44.3/5.83 = 7.6 s

Now, for the blue car

210 - 44.3 = u * 7.6 + 0.50 * a * 7.6^2

Now, for the second case

vr = 42 km/hr = 11.7 m/s

time taken ,t = 76.4/11.7 = 6.54 s

210 - 76.4 = u * 6.54+ 0.50 * a * 6.54^2

solving tht equations for u and a

a = 2.6m/s^2

u = 11.9m/s

the initial speed is 11.9 m/s

the acceleration of the blue car is 2.6 m/s^2
