An antiporter is an integral membrane protein involved in secondary active transport of two or more different molecules or ions across a phospholipid membrane in opposite directions.

Similarity: Both symporter and antiporter transports two solutes together across the membrane.

Difference: In antiport two species of ion or other solutes are pumped in opposite directions across a membrane, while in a symport, both the ions are transported together in the same direction.

b. Similarity: Both use ion channels to move ions across the cell membrane, in or out of the cell.

Difference: Transporter mediated passive transport moves ions from high concentration to low, using no metabolic energy. Active Transport moves ions from low concentration to high, using metabolic energy in the form of ATP.
