Question
In the circuit represented by the figure below the bulb B has a higher electrical resistance than the two outside bulbs. The current through the battery is 1.6 mA, i.e., 10^16 electrons pass any point in the battery per second. How do you think the current through bulb A compares to the current through bulb B? Explain. How do you think the current through bulb A compares to the current through bulb C? Explain. How do you think the current through bulb B compares to the current through bulb C? Explain. How do you think these bulbs will compare on brightness? Explain.Explanation / Answer
For Parts A , B and C
In a series circuit same current flows through all the three light bulbs i.e A ,B and C from the battery .Therefore current through each light bulb is
IA=IB=IC=1.6 mA
D)
Given Resistance of bulb B is greater than Resistance of Bulb A and C i.e RB>RA =RC
Brightness of bulb is indicated by the power dissipated across it
P=I2R
Here power is directly proportional to resistance ,therefore brightness is ranked
PB>PA=PC
