Together they skid along the pavement to a stop. As a physicist, you are called upon to help investigate what happened. At the scene you see that the skid marks are 10 m long and are at an angle of 32 degree north of west. Let p is the momentum of wreck sfter sticking
initial momentum of car = p cos 32 degree = 0.848p
initial momentum of truck = p sin 32 degree = 0.53p
by third equation of motion on wreck,
u = sqrt(2as) = sqrt(2*0.67*9.8*10) = 11.46 m/s
mass of car = m, mass of truck =2m, mass of wreck = m+2m = 3m
p = 3m*11.46 = 34.38m
velocity of car = 34.38m*0.848/m = 29.15 m/s = 65.2 mph
velocity of truck = 34.38m*0.53/2m = 9.11 m/s = 20.4 mph
Car had velocity more than 35mph, hence car was speeding
