Let ball and dart collide at x m above ground

For dart:

x = 17.6t - 0.5gt^2 (since s = ut + 1/2gt^2 and g is -ve as dart is travelling against gravity)

For ball

6.8 - x = 0t + 0.5*g*t^2 (initial velocity of ball = 0)

adding both equations we get

6.8 = 17.6t

t = 0.386 sec

putting this value in any one of equations above

6.8 - x = 0.5*9.8*(0.386*0.386)

x = 6.069 m from ground
