Question

What's the answer??

In the lab we considered using a plastic cylinder and a brass cylinder similar in size and shape. If you drop them at the same time and from a height of 20 m (higher than what you have used in the lab), will they hit the ground at the same time? Do not neglect any forces in answering this question. It is not possible to predict this with the given information. No, the brass cylinder will hit the ground first Yes. No, the plastic cylinder will hit the ground first. Yes, but in theory they should not.

Explanation / Answer

time taken for both the objects to reach ground from the height h=20m is same.

time taken=((2h)/g)^(1/2)

=((2*20)/9.8)^0.5

=2.02sec

theoritically both take same time to reach ground.but due to external forces acting on it both may not fall to ground at the same time.

third option is correct yes they reach ground at the same time
