Question
As a prank, someone drops a water-filled balloon out of a window. The balloon is released from rest at a height of 10.0 m above the ears of a man who is the target. Then, because of a guilty conscience, the prankster shouts a warning after the balloon is released. The warning will do no good, however, if shouted after the balloon reaches a certain point, even if the man could react infinitely quickly. Assuming that the air temperature is 20 degrees celcius and ignoring the effect of air resistance on the balloon, determine how far above the man's ears this point is. Please explain the detail and show step by step to answer this questions
Explanation / Answer
time required for warning to reach ground
t = h/vs
= 10/343
= 0.0292 s
vy^2 = v0y^2 + 2*ay*y
=> vy = sqrt(0^2 + 2(9.8)(10))
= 14 m/s
Since
vy = v0y + ay*t
=> v0y = vy - ay*t
= 14 - (9.8)(0.0292)
= 13.7 m/s
Now,
y = v0y*t + 1/2*ay*t^2
= 13.7*0.0292 + 0.5*9.8*(0.0292)^2
= 0.404 m
Pls thumbs up if correct.
