Problem 2.41 11 of 14 Constants Periodic Table Part A Determine the stopping distances for an automobile with an initial speed of 95 km/h and human reaction time of 1.0 s (a) for an acceleration a 5.4m/s2, (b) for a- -7.0 m/s Express your answer using two significant figures. Explanation / Answer

here,

initial speed , u = 96 km/h = 26.7 m/s

t1 = 1 s

a)

a1 = - 5.4 m/s^2

the distance travelled when humnan is reacting , s1 = u * t1 = 26.7 m

the distance travelled when deaccelrating , s2 = u^2 /(2a1)

s2 = 26.7^2 /( 2 * 5.4) = 65.8 m

the stopping distance , s = s1 + s2

s = 92.5 m

b)

a1 = - 7 m/s^2

the distance travelled when humnan is reacting , s1 = u * t1 = 26.7 m

the distance travelled when deaccelrating , s2 = u^2 /(2a1)

s2 = 26.7^2 /( 2 * 7) = 50.9 m

the stopping distance , s = s1 + s2

s = 77.6 m
