Question
Problem 3 You and a friend are riding bikes to the library one afternoon. You start 5 minutes ahead of her f her house, pedalin your friend passes by, you notice that she forgot her backpack at her house. Since you and her are going to work on a project together, you immediately pedal back towards her house three times as fast as when you left. When you are halfway to the house, your speedy friend catches up to you. Consider toward her house to be the positive direction, and that time starts for her entire trip when she leaves g 3 m/s for 15 minutes when you stop for a quick break. After you had stopped for 5 minutesExplanation / Answer
From your friend house, you travelled 15 min = 900 sec with a speed of 3 m/s till you took a break. So a total of 2700 m.
After 5 mins friend crossed you. So she took 20 mins = 1200 sec to travel the same 2700 m. Hence her speed was 2.25 m/s.
You pedalled back three time fast so your speed is 9 m/s. Half way is 1350 m. It took you 150 sec. Then your friend catches you. So she is also moving at same speed 9m/s.
Average velocity after she passd you is 9 m/s
Average velocity for whole trip is (9 + 2.25)/2 = 5.625 m/s
